JCS1 The Jewish People and the Church: Bible and Theology

This course provides an in-depth examination of the interwoven themes of Israel, the Church, the Bible, and Christian theology, exploring how these elements shape and inform one another throughout biblical and church history. Students will engage in theological study on the identity and role of Israel in the Scriptures, both in the Old and New Testaments, and trace the complex relationship between Israel and the Church within God’s overarching redemptive plan.

The course will investigate pivotal theological questions: How does Israel’s covenantal history influence Christian identity and mission? What does the Bible say about the continuity and distinctions between Israel and the Church? How have Christian theologians historically understood these issues, and what implications do they have for contemporary theology, hermeneutics, and interfaith relations?

Students will engage with key biblical texts, theological arguments, and historical interpretations, considering perspectives from both Christian and Jewish traditions.
