KEDS Orientation Course

This orientation course equips all KEDS students with the essential skills needed for research and essay writing. Students will learn how to locate, evaluate, and integrate credible sources into their work, structure well-organised essays, and maintain academic integrity. A key focus will be on understanding and avoiding plagiarism through proper attribution and paraphrasing.

Additionally, this module provides guidance on accessing and utilising the school’s Learning Management System (LMS). Students will learn how to navigate the LMS to access course materials, submit assignments, engage in discussions, and seek academic support. Mastering these skills will ensure students can effectively manage their coursework and academic responsibilities.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be able to:

• Successfully register for and navigate the school’s LMS to access course materials, submit assignments, and engage in discussions.
• Conduct academic research using credible sources.
• Develop structured, coherent, and well-supported essays.
• Apply APA style for citations, references, and formatting.
• Understand and avoid plagiarism through proper citation and paraphrasing.
• Critically evaluate sources and integrate them effectively into academic writing.
• Communicate ideas clearly and persuasively in an academic context.

This module provides a strong foundation for academic success, research proficiency, and integrity in writing while ensuring students can effectively use the LMS to manage their studies.
