KEDS has published a new book by former student (now a tutor with the school) David Williams, which is both a personal and biblical reflection and mini-theodicy.

It’s All in Your Head is an autobiographical account of a difficult period in the author’s life during which two separate medical referrals took him on two very different pathways over an eighteen-month period. The good news that he did not have heart disease was swiftly tempered by the devastating reality that he had a Pituitary Macroadenoma, a tumour located just below his brain.  Were this not enough to contend with, the author also, throughout this difficult period, faced the prospect of imminent redundancy from his employment.  Yet David Williams calls upon the name of Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, and throughout this account he intertwines a humorous account of the period leading up to his surgery with gentle biblical reflection and theological enquiry.  Does God work all things together for good?  This was the question that nagged at the author’s heart.

With surgery complete, the author endured a difficult eight days in hospital, including a terrifying ‘pencils up nose’, ‘underpants on head’ experience of gibbering, incoherent madness.  His frightening experience led him to further biblical reflection and eventually to a deep spiritual encounter.  This book gently illustrates his journey and describes how his experience has brought him some profound insights.  God does indeed work all things together for good for those who love Him, yet the author eventually discovers a fuller, more thrilling meaning to these famous, comforting words of Paul the Apostle.

The book is available through the school's online shop.
