KEDS senior tutor Jermo van Nes has contributed the chapter “Under Construction: The Building of God’s Temple according to Ephesians 2,19-22,” to Paul’s Graeco-Roman Context
(ed. C. Breytenbach. Bibliotheca Ephemeridum Theologicarum Lovaniensium 277, 631-644. Leuven: Peeters, 2015).
The volume is the result of the 62th Colloquium Biblicum Lovaniense held in Leuven on July 16-18, 2013.
Jermo in his article discusses the (im)possibilities of inter alia Jewish, Gnostic, Stoic, and liturgical backgrounds to the construction metaphor in Ephesians 2:19-22, and by means of historical and archaeological records argues that the first-century context of Graeco-Roman temple building in the province of Asia may serve as a complementary background.
